Hey all....I sent off for the Home Access test last week and am awaiting results. Is 2 and 1/2 years too soon to begin getting symptoms of HIV infection? I have had a LOW grade fever 98.7-99.3) for about 3 months off an on and here lately my armpit and neck glands hurt a little. I had a dry cough for about 3 weeks and it went away, but my chest is still hurting especially on the right side when I breathe in deep. Basically I've heard that you don't get HIV infectyion symptoms before 5 years at a minimum...any thoughts would be appreciated...I am kinda freaking over here.

Has it been 13 weeks since your last possible exposure? Your low grade fever is NOT a low grade fever and a low grade fever is not a symptom of hiv infection. None of the symptoms you describe can be attributed to hiv at this point. If it has been more than 13 weeks since your last sexual experience and you test negative with home access, then you are hiv negative, period. What was your possible exposure and how long ago was it?

A low grade fever 98.7-99.3. Who told you that's a low grade fever? Dr. Jeckell? Your body temperature is perfectly normal as long as it does not exceed 99.5. After that point you can consider it as POSSIBLE low grade fever, but not neccessarily as some will have high temperature like that and still be normal range

First of all...try not to stress. If you haven't taken a test do so. My friend has been positive for over 6 yrs. The only symptoms she's had so far are a fever of 104 and strep throat that lasted about 2 wks. She has been on medication for a few yrs, so that helps. I don't think you should jump to conclusions. Just take the test and find out!!!!

NONE of those symptoms you discriped sound like HIV to me. First of your body tempature sounds completly normal. Second, its very common for glands to become irratated from time to time for no apparant reason. And, im not sure but i believe swollan glands in typical HIV infection usualy dont hurt at all but can be felt as hard non-movable lumps which is much more concerning to docs that sore non-palaple nodes.
