I think I might Have HIV

Ok so a little over 12 weeks ago I met a women off of the internet. We both engaged in oral Sex. A couple of days later I noticed discomfort in my throat. As time went on (about 7 weeks later) I became very sick. It started with a dry cough, then the muscle aches came along with being tired and not being able to get out of the bed. My lymph nodes became very swollen and painful in my neck. Then other lymph nodes in other parts of my body became swollen and painful. My lymph nodes have been swollen for about 3 weeks. they no longer hurt but are still swollen. I have been to the emergency room but the doctors seem to feel like my risk is low and wont take me serious that I feel like I might be infected. I dont know how long a person can have symptoms my have been for a while now. I took a test at 1 day before 12 weeks and the result was negative but I do know that it takes 3 months (13 weeks) to get an accurate result. But im just scared that I might be one of the ppl that takes 6 months for a positive result to show. If I could get any advice it would really help. I have a fiance and I feel like I might have made him sick. I did tell him about the encounter.

Re: I think I might Have HIV

Well Oral sex is a " theoretical risk only " Which means one of you would have to be HIV + first ( she is more than likley negative ) you would both need open cuts in your mouth with gallons of fluid exchanging. Im guessing this is not the case, so NO RISK

You tested NEGATIVE already, 3 months is Fully conclusive.....

The 6 months is very very rare indeed. It really only applies to people who have terminal cancer, or certain blood cancers. People who have taken and are taking long term anti viral medication, or a long term needle drug user. If these dont apply then your are NEGATIVE

STD's including herpes are far easyer to transfer than HIV and are a lot more common. It may be worth doing a sexual health check. Im not saying this is the cause, but always worth doing if people are sexulay active..

Your symptoms are not typical of HIV as they have lasted way to long, but are quite typical with a flu virus, i say this as ive had the dam thing for ages, and im HIV negative.

Honestly, belive your doctors, if for one moment they thought HIV was possible you would be the first to be told, but you had zero risk and your results are fully conclusive.

Regards

Apollo

Re: I think I might Have HIV

oral sex is not a method of hiv transmission
anal and vaginal intercoarse,iv drug use and tranfusions
or occupational are the known risks for hiv.
you do not have hiv
your test confirms this fact.
your test results are not going to change in 2 weeks from now either.
you cannot diagnose hiv thru symptoms
you best action would be to take it up with your doctor
to figure out whats wrong with you.

Re: I think I might Have HIV

Thank you for your reply. As far as an open cut or sore. I a wisdom tooth that had a huge hole it. When I brushed my teeth it caused it to bleed. Right before I had the oral sex I did brush my teeth for fresh breath and it did bleed. Does that put me a greater risk?

Re: I think I might Have HIV

Hey Missy,

I see youa re from NY, There are tons of gerat clinics in NYC and the surrounding area. If you read the site...99.9999% of us are all int he same boat, we had 1 expierence that we think may have been the one.

A couple of things, as liek you I have had swollen nodes in neck, arm, leg, for almost 5 months, to this date I have had 14 neg HIV tests yet can't accept my test results. You took a test at the 3 month point, accept the results. As for your throat, were you checked for any oral std (chly/ghono).

My suggestion would be to accept your test, if unable to do so, go to an HIV clinic get one more antibody test and move on. I am at 20 weeks, had more tests then you could imagine, it you don't let it go it will run your life. Don't worry about rare strains, coinfection, delyaed seroconversion.......be happy, enjoy life and be happy.

Re: I think I might Have HIV

NON at all..... It would need to be pouring, to point it freak the other person out One other thing, Saliva kills the HIV virus, so thats why Oral is classed as zero risk and the fact their is virtually no reported cases of HIV transfer from this act, and in women zero. Its only a " Theorectical" risk with men due to seamen.

Besides all irrelevent. You tested negative, and if you tested negative after all the symptoms, then be assured, the results are certainly conclusive.

Re: I think I might Have HIV

your test results tell the story with hiv.
you are so close to the window that
there would be no way for the results to change.
alot of the stories of delayed symptoms and other fears you hear about
happened over 10 years ago and things have changed alot since then
like better tests and understanding of
how the virus gets transmitted.

so be very wary of what you read out there.
you do not have hiv.
good luck

Re: I think I might Have HIV

Hi missy1983,

The risk you were expossed to, if any, was extemly low. I have read of cases of HIV being transmitted via oral sex but in each case ejaculation of semen took place and these cases are very few and very far between. I have never heard of any case of HIV being transmitted via female to female oral sex. If there is such a case, it is extemely rare.

I agree fully with the advice you have been given, your risk was in effect zero and it is extemely unlikely any further blood test you take will bring back a positive result. It is reasonable to state your results are conclusive but if you wish to have further one's for peace of mind, it is unlikely your result will change.

Take care, regards Kevin.

To: kevin

Thank you so much for your advise. I am extremly concerned because My lymph nodes are still swollen and its like they became swollen one after as if an infection was making its way through my body. I read that this is an ARS. Although many ppl told me that oral sex between 2 females does not result in HIV my doctor told me that it has happened but is extremly rare. Your words have had a great effect on me and I will be able to sleep tonight lol. THANK U!!!

Re: I think I might Have HIV

Hi there,

Swollen lymph nodes and yeast infections can be caused by many things, non of them related to HIV. When your body is infected with a vius, in this case HIV, it will react. The average reaction time is 28 days, most ARS occurs during this time as your body reacts to the infection.

Given your negative results and to be honest with you, your zero risk exposure, I would bet everything I own, including my very soul you would not test positive on the 10th.

The internet is a wonderful place but sometimes when you are really worried it can over load you with info and small things that go unnoticed suddenly turn into major issues. Please, please take my advice on this, no matter how many symptoms you believe you have, they cannot be used to determine your HIV status. There is only one way to do this, a blood test, yours was negative, it will not change on the 10th.

Oh and please stop beating yourself up, we all make mistakes, we all do things that we later regret, it's what makes us human.

Regards Kevin

Re: I think I might Have HIV

Missy, dont go down the road of HIV paranoia, is a hard road to get off. Its more than likley guilt and stress which is running your body down, which is making you ill tbh ( hence a yeast infection and other symptoms ) You had zero risk ( your doctor is a numpty ) and the test has proved that. Focus on your son for xmas and your wedding, as that will certainly take your mind of it . Its all done now, move on and enjoy your life

Regards

Apollo
