Results of testing at 9 weeks

I had the Proviral HIV DNA by PCR test done at 9 weeks after my potential exposure (64 days, to be exact). An Elisa antibodies test was done at the same time. Both came back negative.

How confident can I be in this result? In general, would further testing be recommended or simply redundant?

Just trying to understand better.

Thanks.

Re: Results of testing at 9 weeks

window periods can be confusing as
there is no global standard.

the cdc says 12 from exposure,
others have stated 4 weeks with the newest tests
that are out there.
at 9 weeks with 2 differant kinds of tests

it would be safe to say
you are hiv negative and no further testing is needed.
move on
good luck

I agree with Smitler,

THE PCR even though not used for diagnostic purpose in routine HIV testing is a reliable test in detecting HIV.

The reality is most ppl will develop a positive antibody test by 3-4 weeks and def by 12 weeks. You shoudl do a 3 month test and if still worried about "symptoms" go see a doc.

Well the good news is your 99% HIV Negative. To be 99.6% according to current guide lines, then 13 weeks is the Golden Stamp. But if i was you, i would take the results as golden as wouldnt test again, as you results arnt going to change

I went ahead and did another antibody test at 90 days. It was negative as well. I want to thank all of you who responded to my post for helping me get through a very difficult time in my life. Best of luck to all of you.
