i'm with apollo

you can test all you want and waste your time and resources
but the fact is nobody gets hiv thru oral sex.

so the results are already predetermined!

Haha okay thank you guys for all your opinions.

Any other comments or anything? I know you've probably exhausted all the "oral sex is not a risk" comments, but I'd appreciate any other advice/support.

Thanks once again, but please don't close this thread.
I'd like to respond once I get my test results back.

Re: Possible HIV exposure (oral) Please help my anxiety!

Good info in this thread. I had a question on the testing, what are the differences between a 3rd and 4th gen test? Because where I go, they used a Unigold rapid test, I believe that is a 3rd gen..? And what is the timeframe accuracy for such a test? They told me that they are most accurate after a month.

Hiya. The difference between them is that a 4th generation test looks for the p24 antigen and antibodys, unlike a 3rd genertaion test that searches for only antibodys. The 4th generation tests are able to detected HIV earlyer than a 3rd generation test due to the p24.
The unigold would only give around 90- 95% ( max ) accuracy at 4 weeks. This test your looking at 6 weeks very earlyist, but only 3 months is conclusive. I would not agree they are most accuarte at 4 weeks at all.

Hope that helps

I see. That does shed more light. Thanks for the reply, Apollo. So basically, the 3 month test, no matter which generation, is most conclusive?

Yes correct. 3 months is fully conclusive with any HIV test

Awesome. I've just been doing more reading, different studies and whatnot, tis quite interesting. I never knew about all the inhibitory factors in saliva. And I never knew about the relatively low rate of transmission even in unprotected anal/vaginal. I suppose as I heard somewhere on here, HIV is rather tough to get, if it was super easy, half the world would have it.

Savlia does just as you have said. It makes the virus inactive but is still detectable via a oral HIV test. Although HIV is hard to pass on, its still never an excuse to have unprotected sex. Although its still low risk having a "one off" sexual exposure, its still wise to only have protected sex, that way your 100% protected. Their are many people who have got HIV from a one time exposure, so although its still quite low, it certainly does happen.

Re: Possible HIV exposure (oral) Please help my anxiety!

So as a final post here...
You guys all think I'm fine? How sure?
And even if this other person was HIV positive I'd be okay?
Thanks for all the help. You've all made a huge difference in my life thus far.

BrendanSJ

i have had hiv for many years.
one thing i did when i got hiv was to find out and educate myself
about how i can give it to someone else.
i do not think i could handle it mentally if it happened from me.

anyway
if i thought for a second that you were at a valid risk for hiv
i would be the first one telling you that you need to get yourself
checked out and checked out fast.
i have no reason to sugar coat things on here to you.
imo
you should move on.

Re: Possible HIV exposure (oral) Please help my anxiety!

Hey everyone, good news.
Results from my recent 6 week rapid just came back negative.

I want to thank you all SO MUCH for your help and support during this time.
I honestly couldn't have made it the 6 weeks without all your reassuring words and help. It honestly means more than I'm sure you think.

Thank you all, God bless.
