Re: How "Rare" is "Rare" ????

Are you speaking in reference to HIV?

If so...it can take up to 6 months for HIV to show up positive in a blood test so it's always recommended that someone take the test immediately...and then again in 6 months to make sure. Even though tests have become more sophisticated in detection...if you are concerned...then that is why I recommend getting tested again at that time period to ease your mind.

If you are speaking of something else....please verify....Obviously none of us are medical professionals...I am going based on what I know as my cousin died of AIDS and I learned a lot about this disease.

Re: How "Rare" is "Rare" ????

Hi ! and thanks for the reply, and yea i am talking about HIV haha

Now the 6 month test you are talking about is supposed to be outdated, according to the CDC 3 months is good enough but in "Rare" tests can take longer than 3 months so i was just wondering "How" Rare these occurencies are and because i havent heard from you before i will tell you my "Scare"

Last year around September - November ( cant remember ) i had unprotected anal sex with person who promises they havent had any sexual partners before me. So i went for a HIV test last month and it turned out negative so i posted on here to find out and a couple of people replied saying that 3 months is a conclusive result and i can trust my result because it was about 8-5 months so should i believe them ? Iam only a teenager and i am very scared help me please.

Re: How "Rare" is "Rare" ????

And just fyi but this is the chronic pain board...so I'm not sure how you got to this board?

Anyway...there are differing opinions on the 6 month mark. I just know for myself, whenever I have been tested for HIV through the years...I have followed it up with one at 6 months as it gave me more peace of mind as there have been incidences where it has showed up then.

So..it's really about if you want to test then, just to be sure. I am a heterosexual and have always gotten tested in between relationships..not just for HIV.

It's important...gay, straight, or bi...to protect yourself and never go based on someone else's word. It's YOUR health...YOUR body...No glove...no love!

Again..it's up to you...but I would want the peace of mind after 6 months to know I am free and clear.

Good luck..
