Possible exposure risk and symptoms

Hello,

I've been going back and forth on this board in search of information. Here's my story. Would appreciate feedback.

I took a trip to california this summer for pretty much the whole of June. I had a number of encounters with several guys, all protected. I did have unprotected oral sex, but the anal was all protected (I was the insertive partner). I even kept checking the condoms several times in between. I was involved in heavy foreplay as well, where my genitalia touched my partners' including the outer anal area. During anal sex with one of the partners, I noticed that he was bleeding a bit as i checked if the condom was still on. My condom was intact. I quickly stopped took off the condom and ended it.

Fast forward. 3 weeks after my return, I had severe headaches and body aches and I felt like my body was heating up from the inside. Nothing else. I immeditely went to the hospital and took blood tests including all STDs. Everything was negative and fine. The sickness subsided a few days later. A week after that I got sick again, this time with swollen lymph nodes. Large ones around my neck. i've never had this in my life. I went to the hospital had two ultra sounds and they said it was a reactionary symptom which meant i had a strong virus that my immune system was fighting. All neck nodes were inflammed. I freaked and still am a little worried. I have some fatigue and body aches and have been like this for a few weeks now, but nothing else. No sore throat, no fever, although i'm convinced i have one. But when i check with the thermometer it's alright. In any case, given my scenario, what are my risks? I'm going to go get tested again in a month. But I need some ease of mind right now.

How can lymph nodes get this big and inflammed without a cold or fever? hmmm...

Re: Possible exposure risk and symptoms

you should have no hiv concerns
i read nothing that would leave you at risk.
your symptoms are only a coincidence and
you cannot use them to indicate hiv in any way.
if you get tested for hiv
expect negative results
good luck

Well its quite common. Viral bugs can cause this like mumps for eg. Their are many conditions that can cause swollen nodes, even a simple flu bug and im talking from experience here.

As for your risks, well you had protected sex, so zero risk. Oral sex as you have read here is just not a real risk of HIV transmission and to back that up their are no reported cases of HIV from oral sex in 20 years, so you being the first is not a likley to happen is it?

Naturally i can see your concern but as for HIV i dont see you put yourself at risk and if you still have swollen nodes you should let your doctor resolve this.

Really you have nothing to worry about. Hope that helps

Re: Possible exposure risk and symptoms

You could not have been exposed to HIV. Condoms work and saliva kills HIV. Whatever is going on in your body has nothing to do with a virus that you could not have been exposed to.

Re: Possible exposure risk and symptoms

Thank you for posting replies. I went in to take my 8-week HIV test last week and it turned out to be negative. The culprit was Mono which I tested positive for.

Some words of advice: I had headaches, a fever, severe joint pains, fatigue, and bulging neck lymph nodes for 2 weeks. I was doubting my HIV risks, but the truth is condoms do work if used properly and oral sex doesn't transmit HIV. So, rather than hypothesizing based on your symptoms go get a full blood test to determine the cause including an HIV test.

And remember to always play safe!

God bless the moderators of this board, they are doing an excellent job.
