Oraquick at home hiv test, accurate?

I had previous threads about my "symptoms" including a sore throat and very low grade fever for 3-4 days exactly 2 weeks after sex with my ex, who is my child's father I know one time unprotected sex is very low risk but given that he was recently in prison I was very afraid and paranoid. A week or so after the sore throat my neck started hurting very badly with swollen lymph nodes and burning/tingling/pain in my feet (peripheral neuropathy?)

Anyways, I decided to buy the oraquick at home test today since it just became available in stores here and the idea of sitting in a doctors office awaiting results (or even worse going home to await a phone call) absolutely terrifies me.

Anyways, the oraquick is NEGATIVE!

Its been 7 weeks since I had sex, would the oraquick results be accurate? (I know their % of accuracy but I mean would it be very likely to show up positive now at 7 weeks if I was in fact infected Either way I will be getting a conclusive 3 month test at the doctors, Im just hoping this will relieve some of my stress/paranoia. It seems like HIV is all I can think about the past month and it was unbearable.

Re: Oraquick at home hiv test, accurate?

Hi worried, well thats great news and thank you for coming back to update us. Well its very unlikley now after this test that you have HIV, but of course your 3 month test will be conclusive. What it does prove that any symptoms you had were NOT hiv related or you would have tested positive.

Try not to worry, im sure you will be fine

Thanks so much, I feel very relieved. I will still get my 3 month conclusive test but at least now I can stop worrying as much and focus on what is really wrong with my body. My lymph nodes in my neck and under my jaw are still all very swollen and tender. If it was some sort of infection I would assume there would be a fever but since there is not I am confused. I also cannot figure out what would be causing the pain and weird sensations in my feet I will make an appointment with my doctor tomorrow.

Thanks again for the response

Apollo, I tried to private message you but they are turned off. I just wanted to really thank you for all you are doing for those who find this board and come looking for answers. I've only been browsing them the past few weeks and I've seen so many questions answered multiple times, other questions asked in pure ignorance with negative connotations or comments that would be offensive to someone living with HIV yet no matter what you always remain so courteous and helpful in your posts. Even if that means answering that all too often asked question, or responding to someone who wasn't very courteous of those who happen to be HIV+. This would annoy most people yet you still help. Thank you and all of the other moderators/posters very much

Re: Oraquick at home hiv test, accurate?

Hey thank you thats very kind of you to say Indeed this forum including the other guys i belive has always tried to help anyone we can. We understand that people are scarred and that often brings out some strange posts but im sure in real life they are just normal people lol. I will check my pm as it may not be working, or as your a new memeber you might not be allowed to pm yet..

Back to you, well indeed your past the worse now. Your test is 99% conclusive, so its so unlikley to change, so finger crossed it stays that way.

Good luck at the doctors, im sure its somthing about nothing
