Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

While I do plan on going back for another test, I'm curious to the reliability after four weeks past possible exposure.

I had one night fling Unprotected oral and vaginal sex. Test after four weeks.

Thanks for any input. While I was stressing big time about the possibility, having this test along with a panel (also all negative) put me at ease a bit. If I would have found this board three weeks ago would have been on here going silly.

Thank you again for any help

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

My apologies. This was a supperate possible exposer all together with a different older femail as it just so happens.

Also, I believe the test was a wb as well. I haven't seen the results but spoke to the nurse who gave me the all good. We chatted a bit about the results as well as my fears. She told me while its not 100% it was a very good indication.

My apologies on any confusetion.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

well a WB is pointless at that time scale. Only a 3 month test will confirm your status althougn a 6 week antibody test will give you a good indication of your status.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

Not sure if this helps, but the test I signed off on said reactive. Is it possible that was it? I am only assuming since I didn't get my paper work yet.

Pardon my ignorance, but I am learning a lot from these boards. And as always, thank you.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

Your story changes per post? If you had a reactive test then would you have not even had a concern about this in your first post rarther than just oral sex?

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

ok, let me clear this up, last thing I want to do if confuse someone I am getting advise from.

a month and a half ago I had unprotected oral and vaginal sex

then was tested at about the 4 week mark, almost 5 weeks

got my results, all good. I am unsure what test they did on me. being here in the states I am assuming elsea wb test. but the sheet I signed did say reactive or reflex, I was too nervous to get a good look.

after my test, that is when the 2nd espouser took place, (kissing, receiving oral).

I hope this clears I up. thank you for your time.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

Well if you had a reactive test john im dam sure they would have told you at the time, its not like having a tooth infection. i dont belive but cannot be sure they would do a wb test as a first test. As your unsure i can only say ask them what test and what results you had.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

I seem to have talked myself in to a corner, I understand where the confusion is now. the test paper I signed before the blood was drawn said "hiv reflex or reactive test" also had hep a,b,c aswell. this was before the test was taken. my apologies for the mistake. look at mister mc'noob over here haha. I must say some of the other sti test are very undesirable.

when I spoke to the nurse, I told her it was only a month out from my exposure, she said nothing showed up at all on the test. I placed a call to find out what test was done. should know tonight. thank you again.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

Ok update. Spoke to my nurse and it was a antibody test that showed up below the value of 1. No wb test was needed to confirm.

So that sounds encouraging I would think. Thanks for any help.

Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

so your test was negative, just follow up at 3 months for conclusive results.

Thumbs up Re: Question about test reliability after 4 weeks

Cool. Thanks man. While I may not post my stress like some other do on here, I do freak myself out at times. I wish people would come here to these boards before looking online at medical sites. It has helped me a ton.
