Scared outta my mind

Hey Guys and Girls,

About 7 weeks ago I was in Las Vegas and had sex with a lady of the night, now I wore a condom and showered as soon as I finished, however the next day I noticed blood on the condom and on my bed sheets (did sleep on them).

I am now terrified I might have HIV, I have a wife and made one mistake. I have a whiteish tounge and a rash on my forearm, the rash looks like heat. I have been scared since I did it that I might have caught something.

I got a test the day I got back 9-11 days after, it was negative however the doc said it would take 3 months to find out. I have had a sore kidney as well.

any help ?

Re: Scared outta my mind

Hi,

You doctor is correct a HIV test is not conclusive until three months for somebody who as actually put themselves at a risk of an HIV infection. You did not, you had protected sex.

HIV is an extremely fragile virus which will only ever poses a risk of an infection within the confines of the human body (when an unprotected penis is inside a vagina or anus) which is the only place it remains infectious. Once exposed to air this very fragile virus is rendered, instantly, non-viable (non-infectious) and any bodily fluid outside the body, including blood, will pose zero risk of an infection.

Buddy words to the wise here. It is natural to feel guilty because you made a mistake but using your guilt to fuel a non-existent HIV infection scare is really not in your best interest here. Let this go, put it behind you and move on with your life. Your test that you did not even need is conclusive, you don’t have HIV, and you were not even exposed to it.

Kevin.

Re: Scared outta my mind

Hi,

This is your call and naturally if you wish to test out to three months for peace of mind nobody on any HIV forum would advise against this. Please remember that this is the reason you will be testing out, for peace of mind.

I will advise you, though, that even though HIV testing is now very advanced and testing today is extremely accurate, HIV testing is not infallible. Having HIV tests for no risk exposures is not without it own dangers. Every once in a while somebody who as not got HIV but as got other medical conditions, will test positive. This is called a false positive. It happens, I have seen it happen, not only on this board but other boards. The fallout from such a result can be devastating, the impact psychologically is enormous and it can takes weeks to sort out. Buddy, do not be tempted to over test because of this situation.

In the meantime, keep off Google. Google is not your friend where HIV is concerned, occupy your mind with other thoughts, enjoy Xmas and please stop worrying about this. If I, or anybody here thought for one second you were at the slightest risk of an HIV infection it would stated. You really was not at risk here.

Kevin.

Re: Scared outta my mind

hey mate, sorry to bug you again. if I got a normal blood test at 8 weeks would that tell me either I am good or not? I know the doc said it is normally 3 months but I want to get an answer, I have never been soscared in my life, mainly for my wife.

I know symptoms are not always accurate and I dint really get them just a sore throat for a few days, I have had bad skin lately (red blotches on my face, little out breaks of acne) pretty sure it's just stress and me playing tricks and thinking the worse.

The biggest thing is my tounge being whiteish, then when I drink coffee or anything it goes brown.

thanks again man.

Re: Scared outta my mind

Hi,

Your symptoms cannot be commented on within this setting, if they are of concern speak to a doctor about them. Please mate stop looking at your tongue it will offer zero insight into your HIV status, as in absolutely zero.

Buddy had you actually had a risk ( which you did not) an HIV test at six weeks is pretty much golden. Many HIV specialists openly state that a six week test is conclusive. If you want an answer and are so concerned , you can test now at eight weeks and you can be assured that it is unheard of for a six week negative result, let alone eight weeks, to turn positive at 12 weeks. On average seroconversion ( going from HIV negative to HIV positive ) takes 22 days. If you test now at 56 days this is over double the average length of time.

So yes you can test now, collect what will inevitably a negative result and take it to the bank.

Kevin.

Re: Scared outta my mind

Hi,

Buddy you are testing for peace of mind here ok? You can take any HIV test and it will give the same result. In your case because you are so concerned and want results quickly I would advise you ask for an HIV rapid test. At eight weeks it is extremely reliable and you could obtain your results with 15 minutes.

Expect it to be negative.

Kevin.

Re: Scared outta my mind

Protected sex is just that protected, whats hard to understand about? Condoms are used around the world to protected people from stds and hiv and they are 100% safe, so why on earth do you belive you had a risk of hiv?

This is nothing more than guilt ridden paranoia and that is not a reason to generate a risk out of nothing. Time to start using scientific facts and stop with the paranoid guilt thinking.

Re: Scared outta my mind

Hey Kev,

Thanks for the reply, one last question I swear. would a normal blood test that I ask them to yes for HIV and other STD's work at 57 days? I am getting a test done one Xmas Eve. Shirt time to do it but oh well. I know reading these forums have made my mind to rest but they have also made me think I have symptoms that other people have described.

thanks again Kev and Apollo.

Only HIV tests confirm your HIV status, so no, a standard blood test will not tell you your HIV status.

Buddy to test for HIV you need to have an HIV test. It does not matter what type of HIV test you take, it will be negative.

Do yourself a favour, stop making an issue out of a non-issue; you had protected sex, period.

Kevin.
