Antibody testing

When taking and oral antibody test how sensitive is the swab to picking up the antibodies?? Is there a chance that it might not pick up the antibodies in your mouth if actually infected? The widow period has long but come and gone

What was your risk and when was it?

Re: Antibody testing

I feel like a terrible person when I say this... But I'm not really sure when the actual risk would have happened! I had unprotected sex with a hand full of males when in college and just recently started to freak out but the last risk would have been about two years ago no sooner than that! I took the test last week by myself and it was negative and I couldn't stop worrying or wondering what if so I took another two days later and it was negative! I guess my who concern is what is the chance of the test being wrong or me messing it up!

Re: Antibody testing

Your 2 negative tests are fine. If they were not taken correctly then the test would not have worked, they both cannot be wrong as much as you my think so. Your fine you dont have HIV.

Re: Antibody testing

@Apollo123 so what you are saying is that if the test would have been conducted wrong I wouldn't have gotten a result at all the test would have not worked period ?? I got the control line on the test and the test turned all pink like it should have but there is no way that the test could have messed up twice? And me waiting two plus years wouldn't have affected it in anywya

Re: Antibody testing

Thats correct. If the test was taken incorrectly, you would not have gotten a result. The control line indicates the test was taken correctly and the results are valid. The fact you waited 2 years only strengthens the result as HIV negative.

For the future, just use condoms, they are our best friend

Re: Antibody testing

Thank you so much so basically I am a 100% negative with these two results? My fear was that one of them was wrong or i messed up and it wouldn't have picked up with t needed! I couldn't stop worrying ad crying! But can I just get one final answer my tests weren't messed up ad my results are final I'm hiv negative?

Re: Antibody testing

You can be 100% sure you dont have HIV. Personally, i would always use a testing centre when testing for std's or HIV, thats just my humble opinion.

Re: Antibody testing

@Apollo123 would you go get a second opinion or would you be ok with the home results! I do get tested for stds once a year during my yearly exam? I don't know if I feel guilty I took the test! Do you know think I should take another test!

Re: Antibody testing

If it was me i would not take another test. 2 negatives is fine, it confirms your status, so i see no good reason to test again.

Re: Antibody testing

@Apollo123 you said you would go to a clinic to get tested over home is there a reason?
