Arrow Unprotected Vaginal Intercourse with a Neighbor

Hi All,

I am an Indian male, 28 years old. I recently had an unprotected vaginal intercourse with my neighbor for about a minute, on 28th Dec. When this happened, I was being treated for Tonsilitis. I used Antibiotics and pain relievers as a part of the treatment.

I am not sure of the health status of my neighbor and as per the looks she is quite active and not a sex worker as far as I know.

I have changed the course of my medicines as my throat was getting worse and really painful. From about 10 days, I got very itchy skin. Especially, on my abdomen and back. I sometimes experienced itching on my hands as well and even now, I have this itching on my face, nose, ears. I can see flakes of skin on my ears, which is a known condition to me because I have dandruff and flaky scalp.

My tonsilitis has subsided fairly. But this itching and minute 2 or 3 boils on my abdomen and back are causing me worry. I feel very itchy after having my bath and my skin feels very dry. The boils are very painful if I ever touch as well. My skin has become hyper sensitive for the past 10 days and If I ever touch any part of my body for a minute, I feel very itchy and painful there.

I have gone for HIV - Elisa test & VDRL today(After 25 days of Encounter). And the results came in as Negative(Non-Reactive) for both. However, I suspect the correctness of the test as I am on medication for my throat infection.

What kind of effect does antibiotic medication have on HIV - Elisa tests? Can I be conclusive about my tests at this period? Please help me. I am really worried. Also, how conclusive is my ELISA test at this point?

Thanks in anticipation.

The medication will not effect your test results. Your test was to early to have a great impact on your status so only a 3 month test will confirm your status. You could also get her tested and if she is negative then you would have a lot less to worry about.

Hi Apollo,

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you feel that these are the symptoms of HIV or any other disease? I am really worried now. I made a huge mistake by getting into that unwanted relationship. I am guilty for what I have done. I read somewhere that ELISA test is very conclusive at 25 days after exposure. What are your thoughts on this? Please help me.

We dont get involved with symptom speculation, it can never confirm your status, only testing. On that note, no test is conclusive at that time scale only 3 months. As that test is a 3rd generation test, its still good news but certainly not close to conclusive. A 6 week test would be a very good indication of your status, so test then as you will be very sure of your hiv status but of course you could get her to test.

So test at the right time is must for you to put your mind at rest.

Window period was and has been still 3 months so you need to test out at 3 months but a 4 weeks test is a good indication of your status as most of the people who IN FACT get infected show up positive by that time.
look buddy you had a risk and you need to get tested at 12-13 weeks mark and thats the only way to put your mind at rest rather than hitting bullets of symptoms in the dark of speculation which wont get you anywhere but more and more anxiety. We have been there and that's why telling you. Good luck

Hi Apollo,

I got her to test today(Elisa 1 & 2) and here are the results.

Test Result REF.RANGE

Antibodies to HIV I & II : OD:0.006 Cut Off OD: 0.247
(Microwell Elisa) Non-Reactive <cut off - Non-reactive
>cut off - Reactive

I have a question regarding this test. what does the number (OD:0.006) show here. That there is SOME virus in her blood? or something else. Please let me know if I need to go for further testing.

I still have the symptoms of sore throat, serious itching on abdomen, around my chest(gets worse at night), itching on palms(gets worse at night). Please let me know if these symptoms are for something else entirely. I searched on the net and found these matching with Scabies. Is that what you think too? Please help.

Re: Unprotected Vaginal Intercourse with a Neighbor

Hiya, well thats the index value, like a diagnostic figure. Its nothing to worry about as long as its under 1, which it was. A test like this will always have a number and it will always change, so thats all normal.

Well the test very much confirms her status, unless she has had many multiple partners in the last few months.

As for testing, well the correct line of thinking is 3 months from exposure, but as she is negative i would be inclinded to test at 6 weeks get my negative and not worry further.

I hope that helps.

Hi, do you think I am clear now? Please suggest. I am really scared. I couldn't sleep well for the past 4 days. I still have the symptoms that I mentioned. They sound similar to Scabies. what do you think?

Hi,

I have consulted a skin specialist today. She feels that I might have Scabies and even she is doubtful about that, when I mentioned about my 'itching in the palms at night'. Please guys.. help me... is this a symptom of HIV or something?

you are barking up the wrong tree!
symptoms cannot diagnose HIV with any degree of accuracy..
a crystal ball would give you a more accurate guess..lol
