had rapidtest today

Hello,

I had a rapidtest done today which came out negative, which was about 41 days after exposure (6 weeks). I started having some ARS symptoms 6 days ago. How long after ARS symptoms do HIV antibodies begin showing? When should I test again?

Thanks

Re: had rapidtest today

What was your exposure esco?

Well if you had a risk then only a 3 month test will be conclusive, although this test gives a good indication of your status that you dont have HIV.

Great news for your 6 week negative! HIV cannot be defined by symptoms alone only a test can tell you what your status is. If your risk was low such as oral then you have nothing to worry about.

Re: had rapidtest today

It was unprotected sex.

I've had swollen glands, small rash on the back neck, and thrush for about week and a half now. Wondering if I should get tested in another week, or should I just wait until the 3 month conclusive test?

No fever, sore throat, night sweats, chills....

thanks!

Well your 3 month test will be conclusive, but as you have had a negative result at 6 weeks, its unlikley to change when you test again.

that's comforting, but if you start having symptoms towards the beginning of the 5th week, doesn't the immune system need more than a week to start creating enough hiv antibodies to get detected by the rapidtest?

Re: had rapidtest today

Hiv has no specfic symptoms, but if anything was hiv related then you would have antibodys and test positive, as you didnt you can be assured they were not hiv related.

Re: had rapidtest today

It's been a little over 8 weeks now. Took another rapid test today.... negative. All my doubts are gone. Thanks for all the great support and information on this forum, I am now more knowledgeable than ever on HIV. I will be more careful in future encounters. Nothing is more important than your health.

I also learned that HIV isn't the end of the world. Thanks to great medicines HIV infected people can now live happy, healthy lives as if they were never infected. Hopefully with all the millions of dollars put into research, medicines will become better and better, and hopefully a cure will soon be found.

Lastly, I've had every "ARS" symptom in the book. This goes to show that symptoms don't mean anything when it comes to HIV. All you have to worry about is whether or not you had a risk, and if so, to get tested.

Thanks especially to Apollo for his helpfulness when I needed it.

Re: had rapidtest today

Hiya, thank you for the comment and no problem, glad to help :-)

You have made a great point, which we say all the time. Symptoms are speculative, tests are factual. Its very clear is status is more or less confirmed, but the cdc guide lines still require a 3 month test which of course i would not expect to see any change.
