Hi Ramie
PCOS is a hormonal problem that causes women to have a variety of symptoms including: Irregular or no periods, fertility problems, obesity (most have the "apple shape" where they carry a lot of their weight in their stomach and upper body), excess hair, acne, skin tags, patches of brownish colored skin, cysts on ovaries, insulin resistance to name some.
Any of the above symptoms and signs may be absent with the exception of irregular or no periods. All women with PCO will have irregular or no menses. Women who have PCO do not regularly ovulate. Some women have cysts and some don't.
Hope that helps a bit.
Take care.
