PMS & thyroid unbearable can this be hormonal?

Hi Girls, I wanted to ask you all a question, i usually have only 2 sane weeks out of themonths, on the weeks that I have PMS its so horrible, I mean I get so sick this has never happened to me before I had thyroid problems, my body temp goes down, I get very lethargic, very tired, and my blood pressure gets very low 80/50's, sometimes it gets lower and i stumble and get soo dizzyy, i get chest pains, and i get so tired and moody that its unreal and the anxiety is horrendous.

I used to always end up going to the ER every month, and then I noticed the dates that I went to the ER and it was always from the 20th of the month to about the 12th , so i figured out something is definately not right around that time, so now I keep an onlien journal and that helps me compare the days when i am sick and how i felt the month before this is nuts ,its as if I dont have a life for 2 weeks out of the month, cant cook or clean I mean the tiredness is horrible, and i am normally a very actibe person.

I am wondering if any of you go through this, a friend says maybe I have an estrogen dominance? i dont know what to think, I have kept track of my symptoms by doing a journal online, and type in how I feel daily and I get the same symtpoms every month, and as soon as my period stops I am back to normal, with more energy, do any of you have this problem?? i was thinking of getting birth control pills but am not sure if they interract with thyroid meds.

Re: PMS & thyroid unbearable can this be hormonal?

Hi there,

I believe we have similar problems, except I feel bad once my period starts for the next two weeks or until I ovulate. I have never been diagnosed with a specific thyroid problem, but I am a Type 1 diabetic which is also an autoimmune disease. My main issue is extreme fatigue. I too am a very active person, but some days during my bad time, I am so wiped out it's hard to function. I have also journaled my symptoms, and the pattern is always consistent with the ebb & flow of my hormones. My gyno prescribed birth control pills, but they didn't make a difference. My regular md and endocrinologist had no answers either. The only person who has remotely been able to help me is my chiropractor who also deals in natural medicine. As a last ditch effort, I told him about the problem. He tested me using a technique called applied kineasiology(sp?) and detected a weakness in my pituitary gland. He suggested I go off birth control pills as they suppress the pituitary and he gave me homeopathic drops to stimulate the pituitary. This actually helped some. Prior to this, I had no experience with natural meds. I asked him about my problems figuring I had nothing to lose. He has given me more insight than anyone else.

Hope this info helps in some way.

Re: PMS & thyroid unbearable can this be hormonal?

I have hashimoto's and feel very poorly for two weeks out of every 35 day cycle. It's the week before and week of my period.

The only thing that has helped me is the patch (ortho evra). My OB feels I have low estrogen/progesterone but has never tested my levels. The patch seemed to bring my levels up to a more normal and balanced place. I still had some symptoms but nothing nearly as bad as what I was experiencing.

I'm currently off the patch until I have another pap/pelvic. I can't wait to go back on it...I feel really crummy. My OB prescribed BC because I was having prolonged bleeding...I never stopped bleeding/spotting throughout my cycle. I also had 5 miscarriages and three ruptured cysts on my ovaries in the last year. He wanted me to go on it a year ago but I held out hope that things would straighten out on their own...they didn't.

I'm sorry you're having to suffer! It really is crummy. Currently I can't touch my left shoulder with my right hand or undo my bra because of shoulder pain/stiffness (tendonitis is one of my thyroid symptoms). I never had these problems before I became sick with Hashi's either.

I would really like to seek out a naturopathic dr but can't afford it right now. Maybe in the future...in the mean time I'm going to continue on the patch.

Kelly
