I am a 39 year old female who has had irregular periods. I've had bloodwork done and an ultrasound. The doctor said that I have a lot of blood in the lining of my uterus. He also reported that my hormone levels were off along with my thyroid level. He referred me to an endocrinologist to have my pituitary gland checked out. I have been having bleeding going on over a month. The doctor prescribed Provera 10 days to try to get me to have heavy bleeding to clean the lining. He also said that I could have D & C.

Right now I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Does anyone have any advice?

Did he say what hormone levels are off?

I have a pituitary tumor along with about 20% of the population, who don't know they do.

So, don't freak out.

These tumors are not that rare, most people just don't know they have one unless they start having hormonal issues.

You may not even have a tumor, or anything wrong with your pituitary at all.

What symptoms do you have?

Pituitary tumor? Are those usually benign?

Always get a copy of your blood test results for your personal medical records. In later years you can track the results.

Remember the test results are shown against a range of women or men in the baseline tests. They range from 21 to 90 years old. Your results should be compared to the range of your age. Most doctors will say you are OK if you are anywhere in the general range.

But if you are 27 & your levels are for a 90 year old they are NOT OK. Insist on the copy for you record, then use the Internet to see what you age level should be.

I can totally understand what you are going through with irregular periods, but as far as thyroid goes, mine is supposed to be ok. I too have had the blood tests, the external and internal ultrasounds, thyroid checked etc. Doctors only wanted to put me on birth control pills which i don't need and they do not fix the problem, they only end up causing more problems.

My saviour was something called Chasteberry (Vitex) which i got from a naturopath. This is a very old herb and it's used for all hormonal irregularities. My periods are now fine, except that i get a bit of spotting at ovulation time, which i've been told is fine and i notice that a lot of women experience this.

You can buy this in healthfood stores and the name they sell it by is Vitex, but getting the right dosage is an issue, that's why going to a naturopath is best. You can do a search in google to get more info on this herb.
