Hormone levels, saliva test inc., hypoadrenia, change diagnosis bipolar. urgen
I'm diagnosed with bipolar 1 hypomanic rapid cycle....so my mood shifts daily if not more, and I never reach the manic stage. I'm also diagnosed with ADD.
So I get to thinking that the medication don't realy help they way they are supposed to, and that no matter how hard I try I can't drop weight. lean meat, veggies, and exercise. 5 pounds in a 1 month. I was running on an eliptical trainer for 45 minute session 3 time a week with a low fat ballanced diet.
Plus i've always been big and had trouble dropping weight. The only way I did it one time was in H.S. when I joined wresting once football season was over. (oh yeah...football since middleschool, still can't drop weight) The only way that i've ever dropped weight was to be in the hardest conditioning program in the state of Indiana. That says something there.
I could run a mile in 6:48, but had 30-40 exta pounds on me
So I start having depression issues toward the end of my senior year of HS and it only exaserbates through my first 3 years of college
Mood swings galore, or manic depressive shifts either one...I can't tell the difference.
I have problems getting up and being rested. I run out of evergy fairly quick, and especialy when I don't eat I get dizzy and have to eat to stay running
I sweat more than most people I feel, and I do get what would be considered a cold flash from time to time.
I also think my add might be "brain fog"
I started thinking Testosteron deficiency, but my sex drive is fine so it didn't fit. I bought a testosterone saliva test kit from ZRT laboratories.
Here are my results
Estradiol (saliva) 0.8 pg/ml range 0.8-2.2
Progesterone (salive) 11 (low!) pg/ml range 12-100
Testosterone (saliva) 159 (high!) pg/ml range 44-148
DHEAS (saliva) 4.1 pg/ml range 2-23
Cortisol morning (saliva) 4.5 ng/ml 3.7-9.5
So everything is realy low for my age except for my T levels. My lab results told me on a diagnosis print out that the low progesterone and cortisol pointed to hypoadrenia. It also told me that my testosterone may is potentialy being converted to estrogen on a mass scale. This makes perfect sence. High T levels, so that explains my big frame, and high estrogen due to low progesterone explains the weight, mood swings, anxiety, depression, brain fog, lack of energy, ect.
Oh i'm 22 6'f 265 but look 230 I have a big muscular frame. At one point I could bench 300 and sqaut 505.
I'm currently on Lamictal @ 250 mg for mood stabilization and depression relief, and I take ritalin for concentration in short spurts. I love ritalin, caffien, energy drinks. I realy like having the energy. Perhaps it's because I normaly don't have much, and have never quite caught on.
the issue is that I'm only going to have insurance for 2 months and I need to get diagnosed and treated. I have one apt with my family doctor to get a referal for an endocrinologist, but I don't know how long it takes to diagnose.
insureance starts on the 1st of may.
Please help...i'd like to not be bipolar and get off the stabilizer....plus i'd like to feel as if i've actualy been fixed, not just pumped full of med. (the lamictal is pretty fantastic though. Best i've had yet after 5ssri's 1 antipsychotic, and lithium as a stabilizer)
Oh and I wasn't on ritalin for the saliva test....just the lamictal, and I was on a 3rd shift sleep pattern if that matters. I made sure I noted this for my testing times in detail.
thank you
