| Re: what kind of doctor do you go to for hypertension
There are hypertension specialists though not many.
Look up the American Society of Hypertension
I allowed a family practice doc to manage mine (poorly) for 13 years, he refused to refer me to a nephrologist or endocrinologist when my hypertension couldn't be controlled. Instead he chose to blame me for non-compliance even though I had a good diet, exercise and weight. When my potassium level dropped below normal it was ignored. I became extremely ill with a bizarre host of symptoms which greatly affected my quality of life.
I had secondary hypertension due to hyperaldosteronism.
Thought to be rare but now thought to be the cause of 10-15% of uncontrollable hypertension cases. Surgery over a year ago cured me, no meds, no hypertension, no low potassium and I got my life back.
You can start with a GP but if don't get good control go elsewhere.
