Need to know advantages and disadvantages in taking testosterone injections. I take one injection every 3 weeks. Works OK but it has its up and downs. Thanks

Re: testosterone injections

I've heard some people like the gel better than injections to keep the levels more stable.

One disadvantage of any T treatment is a possible loss in fertility. Did you find the cause of your low levels? Just make sure your Dr is keeping track of your levels so you don't get too high.

Re: testosterone injections

Hi Karen,

The Endo did tests and found no reason why my testosterone was low normal except I am 56 so age probably has a lot to do with it. I am not planning on having more children so testosterone replacement is a good way to go. The reasons I have injections is because of the price and I have read it works better than some gels. I go to see the Endo on Wednesday so he can give me results from last blood test. I'm hoping he increases the dose so that it works better. It has helped my libido but not as much as I think it should. I am happy with results but he told me when he first started me that he may need to change dosage.

Re: testosterone injections

Has anybody got very high testosterone results after injection? I went to see my Endo and I went from 327 to 1009 normal is 241-827 ng/dl!!! My free testosterone went to 30.47 ng/dl and normal is 5 to 20 ng/dl. I was surprised to say the least because I do feel good but not great. He is keeping me on the same injection but putting me through more blood tests in 4 months to make sure my PSA and CBC blood work is OK. I had the blood work one week after my last injection and the results were a lot higher than I thought. I get injected every 3 weeks. What are your thoughts?

Re: testosterone injections

If it's getting that high, you might want to go every 4 weeks instead of 3. My DH went every month and sometimes a little later, and his levels got to the high 800s, which seem high, but the Dr didn't think so. Even at those high levels, he didn't feel like he had really high testosterone. He just felt normal. So I'm not surprised you feel that way. That's good they're keeping track of your PSA. And that's good you got checked by the endo since you don't want to find out you have a big tumor causing it. If you suddenly get blurred vision or lots of headaches, then you might want your endo to check for a non-secreting tumor.

Re: testosterone injections

Thanks for the info. I might consider injections every 4 weeks instead of 3 weeks. I guess I should let the Endo know. My wife gives me injections.

Re: testosterone injections

Doing shots at home is pretty good. My DH has to wait for an hour sometimes to get his shot at our hospital. They won't give it to him to take home, so it's a big hassle.

Re: testosterone injections

Karen,

Maybe you can give injection to DH. It is a little scarey at first but there are sites online that show you how to do it. It is a lot more convenient.

I got some questions: How long has DH been on injections? What readings did he start with and what are his readings now? Is he happy with results? His age? That way I can compare with mine. I'm 56 been on injjections for 3 months, readings were 323 when I started but had a lot of the symptoms of low testosterone. The Endo said he likes to start if under 300 but he understood it may be low for me. What does DH take-I take 200 mg of Depo-tesosterone 1 ml every 3 weeks. Thanks for the help ken

Re: testosterone injections

He's a lot younger and his levels were a lot lower, so it doesn't really compare too much. Really they don't usually consider it a problem until it's under 250. He did the 200 shots about 2 years, and stopped a few months ago to find out the cause and for fertility reasons. TRT can shrink and destroy the testicle function over time. We don't know if he's had any adverse affects from it yet though. He's having MRI and blood tests now. We're hoping we'll have some answers in the next week or two.

He's hoping he can have the alternative HSG treatment, which you inject a couple time a week and it helps your body naturally produce the T. I expect that one we'll be able to do at home.

Re: testosterone injections

Karen,

Yes, we are different. Do you have any children yet? I know TRT can cause fertility problems but knowing how to correct the situation is very important. I have 2 grown daughters so not important to me and I don't plan to remarry and start a new family. I wish you and your husband well. Don't be a stranger and keep me posted of his progress. Ken

Re: testosterone injections

About increase of libido for people over 50. Does it mean getting excited more often by looking or by touching or being touched? When I was in my 20s and 30s all I had to do was look and I was ready. Now even with injections I still need to touch or be touched to get excited. Is that normal?

Re: testosterone injections

I take an injection of depo-testosterone 1 mil 200mg every 3 weeks. It works good for the 1st 2 weeks and not so good the last 3 days of the cycle. After 1 week I'm 1009 but it must really drop by the 3rd week. I was thinking about increaseing my injection to 1.25 mil. What do you think? Has anyone ever teeked their dosage? Did it help? Thanks

Re: testosterone injections

I get a shot of sustenon 250(mg) every three weeks. Good thing is that its the real deal and it works. My testestosterone goes up to 3 times the upper level of an average reading, approx 76 hours after administration according to the box and then down to the upper level of an average reading at the end of the third week which is plenty of test. I dont have to muck around with gells and guesswork, hoping for good absorbtion.

I'm 5 days away from my next shot and I still feel hot and pumped. I'm a 36yo, and feel like 22. My depression is also history.

Re: testosterone injections

Jay,

Wow. Your T must go up over 2000 the 1ST week. Is your doctor cool with that? My doctor was watchful when mine was 1009. I think it has to be high to keep it up for the 3RD week. Maybe I need to increase my dosage a little. I never heard of that injection. Is it new?

Re: testosterone injections

Ken iv been taking depo for over a year and a half, maybe longer, im an active man in construction work and take 1 1/2 mls every two weeks. My muscle increase and lower body fat like the testosterone does. Iv thought of getting my injections to go every 1 1/2 weeks, maybe at 1 mls. Through experiance with this drug iv noticed over a period of time how much it helps.Injections are the best route with a 2 month supply at less than 90 a bottle for 10ml. I tried patchs but those things suck, especially costing 280 a month and leaving red marks all over your stomach so dont go there.Im 46 now 5'10 195
