| Advice on Testosterone Results (Free vs. Total)
Hi,
Below are the results from my Testosterone Tests as well as the latest response from my doctor regarding the results. Based on some of my reading, for healthy adults the free testosterone should be in the upper 1/3 percentile and clearly my total T is low. Over the this same time period I have also lost 25 lbs and am now at about 17% body fat, and exercising 5-6 times per week as I work towards completing my first half-marathon and a couple charity century bike rides this year. Hoping for a second opinion on whether I should be concerned here, and what questions I should ask of my doctor to ensure I am getting the best care.
5/22/12
Free T - 56.9 (Normal Range 35-155 pg/ml)
Testo - 230 (Normal Range 250-1100 ng/dl)
7/6/12
Free T - 45.4
Testo - 154
12/31/12
Free T - 45.9
Testo - 227
Additional Test results
7/6/12 - LH - 2.1 (Normal Range 1-12mIU/ml)
7/6/12 - Prolactin - 4 (Normal Range 2-18ng/ml)
From my doctor- ""Your actual testosterone levels are good. That is what is meant be "Free Testosterone". Your body has less testosterone binding proteins than some men which makes the "total testosterone" value look artificially low.
This is why I ordered both tests."
Thank you for taking time to read and respond to this.
