Good HPV info?

About 3 years ago my wife had an abnormal pap. Dr. said she had cervial displaysia(sp?). HPV I guess. She went back and they "scrapped" the cells off. She has gone back twice a year for the past 3 years and been normal.

As a male, can I have/get something from this? I have had some wierd symptoms. Itching from time to time on my anus, some rash on the shaft of my penis that has tested negative for Herpes but still persists.

I'm starting to waonder if both my wife and I have HPV and are passing it back and forth. I have no "warts" I am aware of.

HOWEVER, about 4 years ago I had 2 brownish spots show up on the shaft of my penis. Dr. looked at them and said they were nothing. They are not raised, but were definately not there prior to that. Don't itch or anything. Don't change in size either. Thoughts?

Re: Good HPV info?

First of all...you cannot pass the virus back and forth with eachother, once you have it, you have it. Although, you can get another strain of the virus from someone else. (there are over 80 different strains of the virus)
When I was diagnosed my doc told me that my bf has a less than 3% chance of showing symptoms of the virus, since it rarley shows symptoms in men (but that doesn't mean they don't have it-they can have it w/out symptoms). He also told me that a man has a higher chance of getting hit by a meteor than developing penille cancer from the virus (if your wife has the high risk for cancer strain??)
I don't know what the spots or rash would be?? Maybe, if they don't go away get a second opinion from another doctor.

Re: Good HPV info?

Hello I have aslo been looking for the right information... I have read that the things listed below..and founds them disturbing but to be useful... i have been asking around if these things are true....with no luck ..they sound reasonalbe..... ( all my answers came from books and internet)
1. There is no cure, the only way to remove the warts are by freezing, burning or posioning
2.Condoms dont always protect you for this because the condom my not cover the spot with the warts
3. HPV can take 1 month to 1 year to show up ( my fiancee and i have bee n together for about 8 months and his showed up in March and mine in mid May)
4. I can cause Chancroid, trichomoniasis, BV and YI. ( i am very prome to the last 2)
5. if left untreated it can cause cervical dysplasia, certain cancers such cancer of the penis, anus, vagina and cervic. and my cause infertaily in men and women.
6. HPV had low risks to passing HPV to a a baby during birth and many not beleave its needed to have a C section.
7. you can get warts in your mouth and throat, from proforming oral sex on either partner.
I hope this helps you

Re: Good HPV info?

Crazygirl-What is BV and YI?? I have never heard of those, nor have I heard that you can get them or Chancorid and Trich from HPV??

Just to comment on your post...becareful of what you read on the internet, a lot of it is not true.

Yes, there is no cure for HPV, but it is believed that you body is able to suppress the virus after about 2 years of having it.

Yes, HPV can cause cervical cancer (if you have the high risk strain of the virus) if left untreated. Cervical cancer takes about 3-7 years to fully be cancer, it is also a very treatable cancer. As for penille, anus, and vagina cancers, I wouldn't worry about any of those. My doc told me a guy would have a bigger chance of getting hit by a meteor than he would getting penille cancer from HPV. I have heard of the chance of anus cancer - this would only be a possiblity if you were participating in anal sex and have HPV (warts) on your rectum. I have never heard of vagina cancer, I don't think you could get this because, HPV lives on the cells of the cervix - no where on the vagina.

C-sections aren't necessary with HPV women. Doctors stopped doing c-section due to HPV 16 years ago, because the chances of passing it are sooo small.

When I asked a nurse at Planned Parenthood about oral warts, she told me that in her 25 year career at Planned Parenthood as a nurse she has only seen 1 guy with warts in his mouth. So they aren't very common.

Just wanted to share the info I know, because I know how it is to read something on the internet that sounds terrible-then sit and worry that it might happen to you. Hope this has helped clarify somethings for you!
