Newbie HPV-Dysplasia - Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Message Board

I jumped across this site looking for info on HPV and Dysplasia and found this which is awesome....I am FREAKED out...i've read some of the postings and it doesnt seem so bad...i Have Moderate to Severe Dysplasia....my doc said he just wants to monitor it...whatever that means...apparently it can go away? i'm scared because i've never been dealt anything that has to do with cancer...i know its not one and the same...but i guess i'm worried because i wonder if this will affect me having kids someday...i dont know really what i'm looking for on here...i guess just someone to talk too...my doc has been worthless so far in explaining ANYTHING to me...i guess i'm just scared...i'd appreciate it if someone could explain things to me....thanks

Hey jamie,

Please know that your fears are warranted. This is a really frightening diagnosis for people who have never been there before. it doesn't help if your doctor is tight lipped. I think sometimes they forget that they deal with this every single day, but to us it's all brand new!
If your doctor has diagnosed you with moderate dysplasia...please know that this is NOT CANCER. It is considered pre cancer and has a very high success rate.
I am dealing with severe dysplasia and am frightened as well...but I have had nothing but positive feedback. Apparently 95% of people are treated and "cured" of this.
Please try not to be so stressed out as stress does not help your body right now. I know, easier said than done.
Let us know any outcome or development...
It is only natural to be freaked out, but there are really great people on this board who will help you through this.

i appreciate your reply...right now i'm going through trying to get a different doctor...especially if i have to keep going back...but it sucks cuz from what i hear he's the best in this field...so i'm a little confused...its just the whole bedside manor thing he's lacking...i've read through a lot of these postings and saw positive things as well....i guess its the whole "STD" thing and making u feel a little worse about yourself...it doesnt help i'm depressed right now too...so that makes this situation a little worse...I wont know anything for 4 more months...i guess they just let this stuff go...so i just have to figure out a way to not let this rule my life...
I wonder with sever dysplasia are you going to have a Procedure done or do they just monitor that as well?! i hope everything goes ok with you as well, and thank you for commenting...i need all the support i can get...u as well, i suppose...Take care...
