Any other questions about HPV??

Freelance writer here preparing to interview a top doctor about HPV questions that women have. I've gotten some excellent questions (see thread - If You could ask one question about HPV). I'll be interviewing this afternoon. If anyone has any additional questions about this virus, I'd love to hear them. One of the purposes of the article that I'm writing is to address all the misconceptions and confusion regarding HPV. Thanks!

Re: Any other questions about HPV??

My girlfriend found out the she has hpv. She claims that I have cheated on her because he doctor told her it shows up as soon as you get it. We have been together for three year and i have never cheated on her. But i didn't always practice safe sex before we meet. She wont speak to me because for the first two year that we were together she test negative. But this last year it show up positve. Is here doctor right when he says it shows up immeditley.
I need your help

Re: Any other questions about HPV??

Golfpro...your girlfriend's doctor is WRONG! I don't understand how a doctor who's suppose to know these things is giving people false info. HPV can remain dormant in your system for months, years and even forever. Research shows that there seems to be a minimum incubation period of a few months but then we don't know exactly who will develop dysplasia and who won't. It's a question of the immune system. Please pass this along to your g/f. Her doctor completely misinformed her unfortunately.

Re: Any other questions about HPV??

I've done a ton of research and it can take up to 20 years to show up. And that's exactly what happened to me so I'm living proof! Happily married for 21 years so I know it didn't come along in the last couple of years.

As far as reinfecting each other - this seems to be a grey area. I've read that you can't but I've read that while trying to heal your cervix from dysplasia, it can't hurt to use a condom. I figured better safe than sorry so that's what we did until my pap came back normal. This is one of the questions I'm trying to get a definitive answer for!
