I just found out that a friend has HPV and now have questions...
After getting this virus..your pap smears will be abnormal right?
So, if mine came back normal then i shouldnt worry..?
Also, generally, how long would it take to show up if you had sex with somebody with it..?

Human Papilloma Virus does cause abnormal smears, and is easily recognisible under the microscope. I can take time to appear, everybody is different. HPV normally takes between 1-3 months to produce warts if it is that strain, but abnormalities within the cells of the cervix may show up sooner. HPV can lie dormant for 10 years before showing symptoms. Abnormalities within the cells will also be graded, and a decision made as to whether treatment is necessary. Try this website:
EVERYONE IS different! HPV may not cause abnormal pap smears, they may just cause genital warts or may be asymtomatic in some cases. HPV is a very common virus in which there are over 100 strains, like the poster above said, HPV may not show up for a long time...
But what you need to know is that there is a vaccine for four of the strains of HPV which cause cervical cancer, it is covered by most insurance companies and can prevent a lot of wart outbreaks.
