Hi. I know there are a lot of threads about HPV, but I haven't found the answer to my question yet.

I have seen reports that HPV most often flushes itself out of the system, or becomes repressed, within 1-2 years. I am curious as what 1 to 2 years means. Does that mean 1-2 years after initial infection, or 1-2 years after treatment? In my case, my warts were treated 9 months after initial infection. They haven't returned, and that was about 5.5 months ago that they were treated (using trichloracetic acid). Can anyone give me some info on this? Thanks for any help you can provide.

i believe the body's immune system is supposed to suppress the virus within 1-2 years of infection. this problem with this is that a person can become reinfected with the same virus in a different location, or infected with a different subtype of the virus in the same location. this is why for males frequent self examination is a good idea. also keep in mind that if your infection is subclinical (that means not clinically apparent, or visible to the naked eye, but still active) you can still transmit. the chances are lessened, but not it is not 100%.
