I have been diagnosed with adeno cervical cancer for which I begin radiation and chemotherapy treatment in the coming weeks. I think I'm as worried about the long term effects on the bowel and bladder as the cancer.
But now I have been reading a lot about the HPV virus and that it is almost always the cause of cervical cancer. Surely that isn't right!! Does that mean I will have had that virus at some point in the past and not known about it. I'm really upset to be reading this - I can't believe this can be real!
Yes, HPV causes basically all cases of cervical cancer. You don't have to be upset though, because 80-90% of sexually active adults have HPV. So yes, you had (and probably still have) the HPV virus.
Thank you for the reply. Can they do a test or something now to say if it is there or not. I dont understand myself - with eveything going on with me now I just don't why this has freaked me out so much.
On another note I want to say how much I admire the courage of all the women who post on this site. Some of the stories show women who have undergone the cancer and are now struggling with the long term effects. My prayers are with them all and with all of those whose stories are happier.
