I think you can assume that you probably have it, because you were exposed to it. HPV is so incredibly common that pretty much anyone who has sex with more than one partner is going to get some strain of it at one point or another.
As to what you should do... can't really advise you on that one. What kind of HPV did the ex-bf have? If he actually had the visible genital warts, then I would suggest you wait to see if you get any. After a suitable length of time and none show up, you can assume you're safe. If he had the 'invisible' kind (only show up as cervical changes on women) then you'll never know.
Out of respect for your future partners (for the next 2 years anyway) you should probably tell them that you were exposed to it, but don't know if you actually have it (but again, you should assume you do).
