My girlfriend was just diagnosed with HPV and i was just wondering if anyone has information on how not to get it. I went to the dr with her but she was too scared to say that we were in a lesbian relationship. I was just wondering what steps i can take to have "safe" sex. The doctor just said wear a condom...but that doesn't work well with Lesbians. So please if anyone can help.

HPV can be transmitted through skin to skin contact, so unfortunately I don't know of any methods that can be used with two women. I do know that there are different strans of HPV and some even "clear up" on their own. I believe it's viral, so it may always remain in the body, but never show signs, never pass on and never even test positive again. I'd start by doing some serious research. If you're more comfortable talking to a doctor about your relationship then I suggest going alone and asking a bunch of questions. If you and your girlfriend have already been sexually active then I highly suggest getting tested.

You can buy latex sheets called dental dams, as a barrier.

Also, if you use toys, you should each have your own, or clean them with bleach between uses.

I'm sure there's more info out there, sorry I don't have it.

There is a new vaccine out there for HPV... I believe there are several shots you have to go back for, but it sounds like something great for you to check out! HPV is becoming VERY common... at least 1 in 4 girls have it these days, and of course even if you were not a lesbian, it's easy to get since condoms don't block everything. I would look into it... I see commercials on TV for it all the time. Sounds like your best bet! The only reason I have not received this is because I am in a long term monogamous relationship, but believe me, if anything were to ever happen... I'd like to get that vaccine because many people with HPV don't know they have it.

The HPV vaccine is mainly for those who have never been sexual active, who have never been exposed to anything.
