| Re: HPV in the mouth/throat
Most HPV oral cancers are usually found in the tongue, or in the tonsil. My only symptom was ONE enlarged tonsil that was painless. I went undiagnosed for about three years because my doctors did not know about the oral-HPV link and they discouraged me from having an adult tonsillectomy(not pretty). They finally decided the tonsil was getting too big, and during the tonsillectomy found a tumor. I was subsequently treated at a major cancer center that does testing on tumors, and they told me it was HPV+. I did not know I had HPV. While an adult tonsillectomy is not pretty, what was far worse was the chemo, radiation and feeding tube that I had.
