a lot of the time there aren't any, until the pap smear shows abnormal cells. sometimes, hpv causes warts on and around the vulva (in women), and you can (obviously) see them. if the woman's gyn tells her these are from some hpv strain, they can be frozen with a special topical (only prescribed)...
in males, i don't know if there are any symptoms for this. sorry
