HPV cin1

Hi,

I just found out I have CIN1 HVP (??). I found out when my period stopped and the doc told me yesterday. Anyhow, I guess he said it's minimal and 90% of women have this at some point in their life but that it goes away on it's own and that I have nothing to worry about?? I am scared! I can't even imagine what will happen to me because of this and I kinda think that the man I was seeing is the whole reason why I got this in the first place. I was tested and had fine Paps, and the last one was July 2007 (had a chemical abortion). No probs. Then no sex until December (along comes my new bf). April I miss my period, May I make the appt, April they say they need more tests, and yesterday I find out I have this HPV (AFTER I got the HPV shot too! :O). I am so confused and I feel pretty alone about all this. New bf totally checked my emails from my doctor without my permission and now won't answer my calls/texts... I am pretty upset and I would love to talk to someone who understands and can give me advice.

Re: HPV cin1

I'm not too sure what to say as far as your relationship with your bf goes.. I told my bf and he was extremely supportive.. but you guys haven't been going out for too long?
If you have it and you've had unprotected sex, then he's most likely been infected and it's something he too will have to deal with for the rest of his life.. since there are no testing for men and no physical signs of the virus, unless he has warts, he won't be able to tell for himself that he has it and still spread it to other women if he decides not to be with you.. He should know that this virus is more of a threat to you than it is to him now.
Bare in mind that he may NOT have given it to you and that you could have had this virus for years without having known. This virus is essentially the "blame-free" virus except that you can know you are passing it on to someone else if you know you have it.. I'm not saying to blame yourself, I'm just saying that it's just too complicated to try to figure out who gave it to you because there's no tests you could take to prove it anyway. A lot of women don't know they have hpv until 2 or more years later.. it's just an evil, sneaky virus.
As for YOU.. you should be fine. As long as you keep your immune system up, your body should be able to supress the virus and prevent it from advancing into something worse like dysplasia or cervical cancer.. Keep on top of your paps!

Re: HPV cin1

I know it's hard not to feel like "damaged goods" when you find out you have HPV, especially when you have a boyfriend that's behaving like an idiot!
But your doctor is right, MOST women get the virus at some point in their lives, and you are not alone.

You've also caught this at an early stage. You have a great chance of your abnormal cells going away on their own, and if they don't there are a lot of treatment options. The chances this will develop into cancer, if you keep up with all of your tests and treat your body right, are relatively low.

It's also good that you got the shot even though it's frustrating that you got HPV anyway. Even though you got the strain you have, you're still protected against four other strains, which could prevent you from having to go through this all over again.

Hang in there!
