Does anyone have the facts on this? If a mom has hpv, can the child be born with the virus that will affect them later? I am raising a grandson that has broke out twice now, once last year and now this year again he is 2 years old. He gets a big blister like sore in the center of his tongue high fever and can't eat or drink for a good week. Last year he was hospitalized for dehydration. This time around after a culture is done I am told it is herpes virus and will continue to surface. Thanks

There are over 100 types of HPV. Some of those cause warts on the hands, or feet. Others cause fever blister type marks. Twenty percent cause genital/reproductive/sexual problems. Unfortunately, I am most familiar with high risk HPV (the kind that lead to cervical cancer), and I don't know much beyond that.

I highly suggest you talk with your grandson's doctor and find out what type of HPV he has. Ask him/her all of your questions.

If he was diagnosed with herpes (HSV), I'm not sure why you are asking about HPV. Does he have both?

The current belief about HPV being passed on to the infant is that it is possible and can cause respiratory problems. I have never heard of HPV causing blisters though.

This sounds like he has HSV (herpes), not HPV. Maybe you should try reposting on that board to see if they have better information for you.

I do know herpes CAN be passed on during birth if the mother is having an outbreak, but usually if this is happening the mother gets a c-section to avoid infection.
