Last week I was diagnosed with a single genital wart. I have been given treatment and it's working well.
My boyfriend of a year and a half has had no symptoms. He is the first partner I have had and we always practise safe sex.
Prior to meeting me, my boyfriend slept with two girls both just once.
When I was at the GUM clinic, the nurse said it was likely that my boyfriend is a carrier of the infection. If this is the case, does this mean that I will continue to get infected?
My boyfriend is going to go to a GUM clinic, but if he has no visible warts, is there actually anything that can be done?
Yes, if your boyfriend has been your only partner, he almost certainly gave it to you (although it can be spread by ANY sort of contact, so if you had contact with other people that wasn't necessarily intercourse, you could have gotten it from that person.)
Unfortunately, condoms aren't a guarantee because any exposed skin can pass the virus on. However, once you have it, you have it, so your boyfriend isn't going to "reinfect" you or make it worse. I would wait until the wart has cleared to have sex though.
Thank you so much for that....that helps a lot. I was sprayed with liquid nitrogen which has made the wart much smaller and I start using the cream they gave me tomorrow. They did say that because it was small in the first place and a single one, I would respond to treatment well. Fantastic news though that I'm not going to be reinfected. I just have to hope my immune system kicks in to prevent me getting them again....they seemed positive about this at the clinic.
Yes, many women are able to fight it off on their own, and if your under 30, the chances are especially good. I'm glad you caught it early and treatment is going well!
