Yes you can still get HPV if you get the vaccine because as far as I know the vaccine only protects against the 4 most common strains of the virus, but apparently there are 40 strains that affect the genital area. I am in the process of getting the vaccine even though I have hpv already because I am hoping to avoid getting any of the other common strains that I don't have.
The good news is that something like 75% of genital warts are caused by the 2 strains of low risk HPV that are in the vaccine. About 80% of the cases of cervical cancer come the 2 strains of the high risk HPV that are in the vaccine.
The vaccine offers some protection, but not against all strains of HPV. Additionally, just because one is diagnosed with high risk HPV doesn't mean cancer. The commercials for the vaccine are misleading, in my humble opinion.
