Does HPV go away?

I was diagnosed with HPV about three years ago. I had the whole routine procedure done, and I've had several exams since. They have come back normal. I was wondering, does this mean I don't have HPV anymore? I asked a nurse at my obgyn doctor's office, and she told me that it is always going to be in my system, but I have read differently on the internet. I don't want to spread it to anyone if I do, so I'm pretty worried. And also do condoms prevent spreading it?

Re: Does HPV go away?

There's some disagreement about this, but since I'm more of a "plan for the best and hope for the worst" sort of person, I assume I'll have it in my system, in some way or another, forever.

Condoms offer SOME protection, but since it's spread by skin to skin contact and condoms don't cover EVERYTHING, there's still a degree of risk.
