What did your doctor say about the HPV? What test(s) have your doctor run so far? What is the next step? Do you mind me asking how old you are?
I suspect your doctor said you tested positive for high risk HPV (which is different from saying you are at a high risk of getting cancer). Low risk HPV leads to genital warts. High risk HPV can lead to cancer IF undetected and/or untreated. High risk HPV doesn't automatically lead to cancer. It is just one of the 2 major types of HPV that effect the genitals.
How have your paps been? Are you going every year?
Sorry for so many questions, but they will help us make suggestions on what you might expect your doctor to do.
The didn't tell me much. Just that I tested positive for high risk HPV and I will get a biopsy done next week. I'm scared that it will hurt more than they say it will. I'm 24 years old. This was my second pap smear ever. I know this sounds odd, but I just became sexually active. I waited. And then this happens! I guess I should have waited longer and for someone else.

Tanya, is your doctor just doing the colposcopy and a biopsy? I've read that it really helps to take some ibuprofen before the appointment. Also, take some deep breaths while lying on the table.
My doctor didn't do any biopsies with my colpo, but she did do an ECC (which samples the endocervical canal). It hurt, but the pain was over in less than a minute and the discomfort was over in a few more. I'm so glad she did the biopsy. It is much better to know and have it taken care of than to not know and have it continue growing!!!
Tanya, i was 17 when i get my first biopsy and my mother was right next to me. It wasn't that bad but at the same time i was really sick and couldn't even swallow which made it even worse. The bad part is keeping your legs and having to sit there untill the medicine kicks in so he can then do his/her job. Don't freak out be relaxed. I know your probably thinking "relax, how you crazy person" but it'll all work out and after you'll find out just how serious it is and what to do then.
Thank you all for the advise. They will be doing the colposcopy and biopsy. And they did mention to take the ibprofen before the procedure. They also said that i may bleed for maybe a week. That sucks cuz im just ending my period. I"m gonna feel like i'm having a period that never ends. They mentioned I cant wear tampons either, i hate pads. Oh well. I guess all I can do at this point is cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best. Again thank you all. Hearing all this helps alot.
