Re: does HPV last forever
High risk or low risk HPV?
Low risk HPV which causes geintal warts can be treated. I am not positive, but I suspect the body maintains a record of having been exposed to the virus.
High risk HPV which can lead to cancer if undetected and/or untreated, is highly debated. The general consensus (as far as what I've read) says the body keeps the virus. It can go dormant, but it can reactivate later in life. Men generally don't have negative consequences (ie cancer) from high risk HPV, but they certainly pass it along to their partners who CAN have complications.
Hope that helps.
