The best place to start learning about HPV is going to the Center for Disease Control's website and reading about HPV.
You can be reassured that you and your boyfriend are not "passing it back and forth". You have, however most likely exposed each other to whatever strains of HPV either of you started out with at the beginning of your relationship (assuming you are having some sort of sexual relations). Once you are exposed to HPV, you have it. It might go dormant and then reactivate, but you don't "get it again." You might, however get another strain of HPV.
