HPV is transmitted by skin to skin contact, not through fluids. Condoms offer some protection, but not total protection. There is plenty of skin that isn't covered by the condom.
There are 2 major types of HPV: low risk and high risk. Low risk lead to warts, high risk can lead to cancer if undetected and untreated.
It is likely that he is exposed to the HPV strains you have and that you have been exposed to whatever strains of HPV that he has.
