This is where there is a real difference of opinion in the medical community. I have yet to read info from a reputable site (gov) that says exactly when one is no longer contagious. Most imply that when it's no longer active, you're good, but I have the impression it has to be inactive because your body has suppressed it, not because it's been physically removed. I actually haven't read any that have specifically said that even when it's dormant, you're still contagious (not that I've read everything though...).
