| Re: Reaction from telling your boyfriend?

I am divorced and have had HPV since 1987. I made a conscious choice for the last 7 years not to be in a relationship. Not because of HPV, but for other reasons, like becoming my own person for once.
Now with my son graduated from college and my daughter to graduate HS in June last year I began contemplating getting into a relationship. Unfortunately I have now been diagnosed with AIN3 and also squamous cell carcinoma of the rectum from HPV. I am now consulting with a radiation oncologist and medical oncologist (chemo) as to just what course we are going to pursue. Many are suggesting a colostomy (surgical closure of the anus with a permanent bag attached to your abdomen instead).
My thoughts of how to tell someone have evaporated at this point because not only do I have hrHPV but now I've got all of these significant medical issues to boot. I feel like damanged goods and find it hard to imagine anyone wanting to hang around and risk this. The only idea I have come up with is to find someone who also HAS HPV. At least they would understand, alhtough for men it is so so different. They are far less likely to experience ANY of the horrific consequences that women do.
I know this has not really answered your question but since you put it out there, I guess I just needed to vent my own frustrations with that issue.
