My new boyfriend told me had an HPV outbreak in 1990--that's a long time ago! He looks and feels clean now, after all these years, but is nervous about exposing me to the virus. So he insists we use condoms, which we do. But we have "unprotected" oral sex and kiss aplenty.

So (1) I don't feel very protected and (2) wonder if we should bother with the condoms at this point anyway! I can go on the pill to prevent pregnancy.

I just think he is being overly cautious with the condoms and they may not be doing what he thinks they are/protecting me from HPV.

Anyone clarify this???

Condoms only offer partial protection against HPV. If the two of you have had oral sex, then you have each been exposed to whatever strains of HPV each of you might have brought to the relationship (knowing how common HPV Is, how easy it is to transmit, and assuming each of you has had some sort of sexual contact prior to this relationship).

Condoms can offer protection against other STDs, but I'd say if you are having oral sex without condoms, then the exposure is there.
