It is treated by skin to skin contact. So the only way to avoid the virus completely is to completely refrain from skin to skin contact - for most of us that is not an option. It then becomes a matter of being educated about the virus and getting doctor appointments when things don't seem right. For women, it is essential to stay vigilant about keeping up with pap smears. Paps detect many cervial problems, but not all.
