genital warts

I am 40 years old and have been married for 10 years-I have not had any other sexual partners since we met 11 years ago-I went to the doctor and have 2 warts on my penis that he said will need to be frozen off. I took my wife with me because the only thing I know is I have only been with her in 10 plus years and this could not be a std like she thought. Of course she exploded and now Im marked as a cheater. I know people will say she may be the cheater but that is not possible i just know it in my heart. We were extremly happy and in a great relationship since we met and are now under a ton of stress. Now before we met I had plenty of partners and she has had some. She was tested and is fine. How is it possible I can have this? Doctor says I may have had all along so how can she not test positive. Im the kind of person that likes black and white anwsers. Can anyone shed some light on this.

Re: genital warts

I am sorry that you and your wife are having to go through this (because it is a "together" thing). Unfortunately, this isn't really black/white. Your doctor is right. The virus can lie dormant in your body for years before it presents itself (if it does at all). This is true for the low risk HPV (which cause genital warts) and high risk (which can lead to various reproductive cancers, including, but not limited to cervical cancer).

There is a lady who use to post on this board who has been with her husband at least 16 years and she recently (within the last year) presented with genital warts.

It is typical that someone presents with genital warts within a month or so, but not always. (that's the "not black/white").

HPV is not something one can use to determine fidelity in ones relationship. It is an insidious virus. Most people have it (if they have been sexually active, and not just sexual intercourse), and most people do not know they have one or more strains of HPV.

I hope this helps a bit.
