| Re: HPV Vaccines for older women
I've been doing more reading on HPV, and I'm afraid my response here is misleading. The doctor who helped developed the vaccine says women over 26 would benefit from the shot if they have had limited sex partners. Whether your doctor will give you the shot at 40 yrs. old is another question. He said that women already diagnosed with HPV should get the shot because it will protect them against the other strains of HPV that the shot protects against.
In addition, the stats indicate that 78% of HPV is found in the younger age group, that's why I wrote that 22% is found in the older age groups.
In retrospect, HPV is too complicated an issue for me to be posting info on this board, even though I've spent a lot of time reading about it, there are many issues involved and I didn't realize how complex a disease HPV is.
As I have stated in a prior post, I have chosen to abstain from sexual contact rather than worry about all this stuff, even if the risk of getting cervical or oral cancer is low, I don't want to take it. Many of my single female friends feel the same way and have avoided contact, they feel as I do, it's not worth the health risk to have a boyfriend.
