High Risk Hpv and Oral Sex - Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Message Board

I was told i had high risk HPV in December of 08, I had a colscopy in Jan. The doctor said that the lesions were so small he took them out with a swab. If i recieve oral from my partner will he get hpv too?

not necessarily.. somepeople immune system are pretty good against warts.. if he is someone who had lots of hand warts growing as child.. and or still has some.. then he is susceptible to warts and i wouldnt let him give u oral till u have these gone for sometime maybe 6mos to make sure thy are gone.. but even though i think the chance in minimal...

additionallly the highrisk type is in relation to cancer.. not warts.. generally high-risk hpv is not associated with warts...well, common genital warts.. they are more flat variety.. and often they are not detected as warts even.. visable warts are generally not the high risk ones

My gynecologist told me that performing oral sex on a person with high risk hpv puts you at a higher (not necessarily high!) risk of getting oral cancer. Most people's immune system can handle the hpv pretty well and I don't think that you need to worry too much, but it doesn't hurt to be aware of the risk.

I told my boyfriend all this, but he wasn't greatly concerned and neither am I. So oral sex is still part of our sexuality.

Thank you so much. I wasnt to worried until I started engaging in it. Now that I know that there isnt to much I should be worried about I'm not going to lose sleep over it like I was thank you.
