Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

My doctor told me expect a really yellow then black discharge after my colpo. She said it would stain so I should definitely wear a liner. So I haven't had much discharge since my procedure on Tuesday. I've wiped away some yellowness here and there and even small tiny rubbery looking matters. I thought I was ok and done with it.

My doctor warned me about the discharge. She assure me it was completely normal and not to panic when I saw it. She explained the material used was made of iron so my discharge WILL look black. So my lack of discharge initially concerned me (maybe cause she insisted so much on the fact that there would definitely be discharge and I didn't have any. I thought maybe it got stuck), so I went online to look it up. That's where I read about the glop that eventually falls out of you. A big mass, or scab like, or tissue ball size of a hand, blood clotty, etc THING that you will pee out. After reading about this I am so scared to pee!! I know it's ridiculous! And I was told to expect it. But it's really creeping me out! I seriously try to hold my pee for as long as I can, and when I do go, I feel squeamish and queezy and my body feels completely weak. I know it's totally ridiculous so trust, me you don't need to tell me that!!! I'm actually doubling on my water so I HAVE to pee because it's irrational for me to not want to pee because of this!!!

But every time I think about it (the glob tissue I'll have to excrete) my muscles go weak! And it seems like the 'discharge' happens a few days after the procedure so I know, at any bathroom break, it might happen!!

So for the ladies who have gone through the colposcopy and have gone through the glob situation, what did it feel like? Did you feel it coming out? Or was it more like you didn't feel anything, but saw it in the toilet? Can it just seep out, like a period? Or is do you physically pee it out. Does EVERYONE who's had a colpo have this? Why hasn't it came out yet? When will it come out? And WHY am I FREAKING OUT?!

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Oh, and I also sit with my legs crossed really tightly in case it does want to seep out and sometimes do kegels to 'keep it in'. What the heck is wrong with me!? As scared as I am about it, I really do wish it would JUST HAPPEN! The anticipation is dreadful!

PLEASE TALK SOME SENSE INTO ME!

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

It's been so long (over 20 years) since I had a colpo, I don't remember the discharge afterward, although I'm sure there was one.

A quick internet search just informed me that the clumpy, black/ brown stuff you'll be discharging is a medicinal paste which the doctor puts on your cervix after doing a biopsy. This can mix with a small amount of blood.
So, basically, what will come out is: 1. dried up medicine paste, and possibly 2. dried blood.

If I were you, I'd be happy to have that out. Better out than in!

I did have a benign polyp removed from my cervix a few years ago in an office procedure. The doctor put a paste- I believe it was silver nitrate- on the spot where the polyp had been, to stop the bleeding and prevent infection.
This paste came out over the next few days, in the form of strange-looking black and gray clumps and chunks which looked sort of like wax and sort of like metal shavings. Very odd. But not painful, and I was glad to be rid of it.

You wouldn't be afraid for a scab to fall off your knee, would you, once the skin underneath was healed?
Or imagine you put glue on your fingernail and let it dry.
You wouldn't be afraid to peel the glue off, would you? It's just glue.
You wouldn't be afraid of having it fall off. I mean, who cares, right?

The doctor put some medicine on your cervix. When it's dried up and no longer needed, it will fall off, either in one big clump or in a lot of little clumps. There might be some blood, too, but why should you be afraid of that? It's no different than having your period.

Don't be scared. Just let it happen.

Best of luck.

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Hey Kali. I technically know what to expect. But passing the wad of tissue is what's freaking me out!!! Some people said it's the size of a hand!!!!! A hand?!?! Calling it discharge is a huge understatement!! But the good part is I peed! Lol. And I peed a long tissue wad (the size of and thickness of a finger). I didn't feel it. I just looked in the bowl, saw that grossness n flushed!! I think there's more solution in there (I guess 4 more fingers worth). But I feel better knowing (or hoping) that the mass won't be too big. it's seriously one of the grosses things ever. I can't imagine not being told what to expect. If I didn't know this normal, I would have thought I peed out an ovary.

But I feel much more at ease right now.

Thanks Kali

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

I don't know about all that (the size of a hand). Lol.
I think I would've remembered something like that.
There's no reason to be scared of passing it, whatever it is.
I've had some rather large clots associated with my period in recent years (getting old, I guess).
Not to mention giving birth vaginally (painful) and passing the placenta (not painful).

You mustn't be afraid to let your body rid itself of this gunk, when it's read to do so.
You'll give yourself a bladder infection by refusing to pee.

I'll bet that thing you just passed was all there is.
Try not to worry.

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Thanks Kali. I think I did 'pass' the worst of it. I still have some bleeding which doc said is normal as long as its not heavy. I had a low grade fever this AM, but no real signs of an infection. Haven't had a fever in at least 10 years so I when she told me I had a fever I was like, um... what does that mean? LOL. It was just weird for hear i had a fever!! I was like WHAT DO I DO! LOL, I think I'm just drained for all this.

And I just found out I have CIN2. I don't really know what it all means. I didn't do much research outside of a colpo. I truly thought my colpo was going to be fine. Now I have something else to fear... Ugh. I feel so lost and like I'm in over my head. Is there a 'For Dummies' version on abnormal paps + HPV? :-/

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Curlyfry:

CIN2 is moderate dysplasia (which is much better than severe dysplasia!)

If left alone, it will regress and go back to normal 40-50% of the time; in the other half of cases, it will persist or progress to severe dysplasia (next stop: cervical cancer).

Because of this risk, most doctors prefer to treat CIN2 aggressively, with LEEP.

Don't be too anxious. Just do whatever your doctor advises and you'll be fine.
If there's anything to be grateful for in this sorry mess, you can be glad that you caught it in plenty of time.

Good luck.

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Thanks Kali. You're words have been so comforting. Everything is just happening so fast and there isn't much communication really. It's like, here's what's going on, and this is what we have to do. I mean I trust my doctor- even though I've just met her. But I can tell she is genuinely looking out for my best interest. She also advice me to not do too much internet research. LOL. Which I completely understand because the more I look, the more freaked out I get. And I'm pretty alone in all this which I guess is what's adding to the anxiety. I don't want to tell my parents because they live in another state, and I know my mom will worry because she's not here with me and will insist on me moving back home. I just recently met an awesome guy. For the first time in my life I feel like he 'may be the one', and now this. It's really too early in the relationship to hit him off with all this information, but I can't keep hiding it. When I tell him we can't have sex for a month, I'm sure he's going to wonder why. And again, this just seems like a load that would be too heavy for him.

Ugh. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel more better. It's just been on hell of a week. I need some R&R!

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Oh, and oddly enough, I'm not nervous about the procedure. I'm just nervous about what it all means for me and future. The impact it will have on me. On my job (post procedure), my 'love' life, my family, the psychological impact, the results, etc... Ok, no more thinking!!!!!

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

aw jeez, i just had my colposcopy last friday and no one told me i would discharge anything. i wore the liner for a couple days, didn't notice much, so stopped wearing it. it's been almost 6 days, it would be out by now right?????

i don't have the results back yet, but i'm a DES daughter, never lived in a smokefree setting until my husband died a few years ago, always had weird paps, and just tested HPV positive [sure, because i found a new love after my husband of 35 years died. again, jeez. we're almost 60, what would be the chances we didn't have some kind of sex life before now...] so i figure i have 3 strikes. i am encouraged by the posts here tho...sounds like no matter what the next step is, it'll be okay.

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Hi Phinneas. I only 'passed' the ovary looking tissue I mentioned here (about 4 days after the procedure) and that was it. It was like the thickness of a thumb, but I didn't really feel it. I saw it coming out as I peed (TMI! SORRY!) so I was just trying to 'go' faster cause it was just weird! But I was definitely warned that there would be discharge. If you aren't spotting anymore at all, maybe you 'passed' it already and didn't even notice!!

It's all a process and we have to take the necessary steps in order to beat this. I guess that's why I'm not really scare of the procedures because it's just the next step. And if anything, it's more of inconvenience for me!!! I have my LEEP scheduled in about 2 weeks so I'll let you know how that goes. I'm sure everything will turn out ok. We're acting fast on everything so I'm not scared.

Everything seems to be going fast for you too so I'm sure you'll be ok. Some women wait a long time in between abnormal paps- colpos- and LEEPS. Knowing what I now know, the only advice I can give is to treat immediately! CIN3 is the stage right before invasive cancer cells. It doesn't need to get that far if you treat immediately! And definitely keep up with the following paps!

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

thanks so much. we are awaiting colpo results, should hear today. i have heard some accupuncturists have had patients with positive turning to negative hpv tests.....but otoh, sometimes your body fights it anyway. once i see the level of cell abnormalities, i will be more sure what the next step is. i guess the biggest unanswered ???? for my bf is, where the heck did it come from? he was married a long time and then only dated one other person before me. or was i carrying it from long ago.....hard to say i guess.

i stumbled onto these boards while trying to research, and you all are wonderful to share so much. it's kinda scary to be this age and fighting an STD.......we have preached to our assorted stepkids, grandkids, etc and look, it's the adults who got the STD. but we will use it as a learning tool for them as well.

we also are strong in our faith and will continue to pray that we are led to the right professionals to help us. did most of you get second opinions about the next step, or just go with the procedure outlined by your gyn? in my town there is a specialist in gyn cancers, so if the results are too far down the list i may go there for second opinion, but i don't want to have long delays if i need to do something asap.

thanks again......great help.

Re: Scared to pee after colpo- please share story!

Hey there I just went and had this procedure done last week and i was worried about the discharge also. It seemed like it came out rather slowly and mostly when wiping, only for about 2 days then it stopped. So don't worry too much its probably all out of your system.
