1st trip to the gyno with HPV - Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Message Board

Okay, tommorrow is the big day!! After nearly THREE MONTHS of waiting I'm finally seeing the gynecologist to begin treatment for HPV. Or so I hope. I don't really know what to expect on the 1st visit, however. Is an assessment of the situation done first? Must I endure yet another pap smear? Can she get rid of all of them in one visit? All these questions, I know; but I figured I'd consult first with those who have been in my shoes at one point or another to get a feel for what lies ahead of me. And ooooh, does it hurt?!?!
A great development to share tho. After finding out back in the summer that I had it, I went thru the typical emotions and fears: Anger, sadness, a li'l shame, etc. The worry that relationships and love might be a thing of the past; but a few weeks ago, I met a great guy. I was terrified of telling him about my condition but knew that it had to be done before things got serious. So this Monday past I sat him down and we had the talk. Thankfully, he was more than understanding. He handled everything (including the news that bedroom activities were off limits for now) beautifully. He's even offered to accompany me to my app't tommorrow for support. For the first time in a long time I'm starting to feel better about this whole messy situation. HPV is absolutely nothing ot be ashamed about. 60% of all women have it. Its so contagious its almost impossible to avoid if you are sexually active. The warts if you have them should all be removed and most of the time they don't return. Not all women that have HPV have warts some just have abnormal paps once in a while that show some abnormal cells/dysplasia. In that case many times it goes away by itself, or in some cases it needs to be froze off.

Hopefully you won't have any more future problems with this. HPV is definitely not the end of the world, but if indeed you have the kind in which you developed warts, you'll need to tell your sexual partners about it.
