Hpv?

Hi, I'm Mattie and new here. I'm a teen and about a year ago I was diagnosed with plantar warts which were on my feet. I used to do competitive swimming so when I went in for my practices, I'd be walking all over the pool without my shoes on, just barefoot. One day when I noticed the warts on my feet I went in with my mother to the doctors and that's when the doctor explained that I had plantar warts and they were caused by HPV and that was caused from walking barefoot in the swimming pool. The warts did go away but what I'd like to know is, does the virus stay in my body forever, does it leave, does it increase my risk for cancers or other problems? I'd love to know, thank you.
