I don't know if hypochondriac is the correct term to use but I am sure worrying about the condition and thinking about it all day long will make it worse and ruin ones quality of life.
I have also found in life that many people use a medical condition to gain attention or get out of doing what is expected of them.
I don't mean to insult or hurt anyone by these comments but would like some input.
Thank you.

Stress and worrying will make any condition worse. I'm sure there are many people who use medical problems or pretend to have a medical condition to get attention. But I will tell you the TRUTH, I don't know one single person who ever got any attention from their TMJ problems. What we have got on the other hand is a bunch of ignorant

people telling us are we sure our problem isn't in our heads and telling us how they don't see how we could possible be in that much pain. So, I'd say yes, stress and worry can definately make problems worse. But do I think people are using TMJ to gain attention, I would highly doubt it!
