I have hypochondria....

I have severe hypochondria....

Last week I thought I had a neurological disorder. This week, I think I have hardening of the arteries.

I am 23, with high blood pressure, but otherwise healthy.

My doctor wants to put me on lexapro for about four weeks as a trial period. He thinks I'll really be happy with the results.

This hypochondria interferes with my life about 80-90% of the time. It is BAD.

Has anyone had experience with lexapro? Is it an OK drug? Any "permanant" effects if you go on it and then off of it, or does one usually return to the way they "were"? (Of course, my hypochondria makes me fearful of medicine too!)

Thanks,

Matt

Re: I have hypochondria....

Matt - I have hypochondria, too. I know way too much medical stuff and so I'm always applying what I know to how I'm feeling so I self-diagnose myself all the time. My blood pressure is high, too, but only at the doctor's office because I'm sure they are going to tell me that I have some horrible disease or something. I am not on any meds for my anxiety (I have a medication phobia, too) but I do know quite a few people on Lexapro and all of them said it worked for them. Sometimes going on an SSRI for 6 months or even a year and then going off of it can be all you need to snap yourself out of your anxiety, but a lot of people are on these drugs for a long time as their anxiety comes back after they stop the drug. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do! =)
